Grant Midbrod paid $64,608 by O.S. in 2012

Midbrod is the computer consultant who started working for the Ocean Shores Library, then expanded to other city departments (Fire Department, Convention Center, etc.). The great majority of the $64,608 he was paid in 2012 was for “monthly maintenance” (not repairs). View the payments: Computer Payment

*Note: Mayor Crystal Dingler and Finance Director Steve Ensley have not responded to repeated requests about how much is budgeted for Midbrod in 2013.

This is an insane amount of money for “maintenance” just saying Considering that any computer equipment comes with a built in service period. If you divide that money up by let’s say Midbroad if you divide that amount by 12 months….paid over 5 thousand dollars a month to maintain the computers in the city. Does anyone else think that is extremely high? I surely think that there would be a more cost efficient way to do this even if you used GEEK squad. I mean come on!!! This is just a huge money grab for someone who is very lucky. I would like to know the detail of the maintenance performed. Come on LIBRARY ASK QUESTIONS!!! Don’t just write blank checks.
How did MIDBROAD come up with that number? What type of “maintenance is done monthly? Was there an RFP? Is there a relationship with this company to anyone who works at the library or who is on the board? Something is FISHY here…. please please please wake u

Another example of abuse of the Mayor’s authority to approve sole source contracts.

  4. Emma Davis says:

Hey, the computers and wifi at the library are really important and well-used community services. I really appreciate the hard work that goes into providing these services and would much rather fire every single council member before losing the library computers.

  5. Anonymous says:

Emma; not an altogether bad idea, the mayor doesn’t seem to care about their authorities anyway.

  6. anony mouse says:

Milbrod is an example of what happens when an unelected but appointed library board is given the exclusive authority to spend the money however and wherever they like.

  7. sheltered2 says:

Would we get anything different if they were elected? Look at the “Strong Mayor” experiment!

  8. Anonymous says:

Well,we got a strong mayor. Apparently one who lives by the”Dictators Handbook”.Or perhaps a copy of Dickens’ “The Artful Dodger”. I think the experiment failed,we appear to have elected the evil of 3 lessers.

  9. Anonymous says:

If you look at the dates he worked a total of 21 days, And 4 of those he only did 1 computer that day.

Not really new info; CHANGES have to be made by whatever means it takes.
